Description of Significance THE ELLIS COUNTY COURTHOUSE IS A THREE STORY BRICK BUILDING WITH A CAST STONE WATERTABLE. THE COURTHOUSE WAS BUILT IN 1912 AFTER A FOUR-YEAR BATTLE FOR THE LOCATION OF THE COUNTY SEAT BETWEEN ARNETT, GAGE, AND SHATTUCK. IDENTICAL PORTICOES OF THE IONIC ORDER COVER THE ENTRANCEWAY ON THE EAST AND WEST ELEVATIONS. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 3/22/85.
